Basic Wheat Improvement:
A hands-on training course

The Basic Wheat Improvement Course (BWIC) is a unique professional development opportunity for early career scientists in the public and private sectors.
√ Impart research skills and knowledge to design and run sustainable program with specific objectives
√ Familiarize with new, improved wheat germplasm
√ Encourage and develop participants’ ability to synthesize and use information and knowledge about new technologies related to wheat improvement
√ Improve participants’ awareness of the roles and importance of support disciplines such as pathology, physiology, quality, statistics, biotechnology, GIS, and social sciences
√ Foster positive attitudinal changes among participants such as improved confidence, increased motivation, and heightened appreciation of the benefits of team work and interdisciplinary research
Major focus of the course will be practical aspects of breeding methodologies (70%), with some general reviews (30%) on plant breeding, pathology, physiology, wheat quality, etc. Lectures, workshops, and seminars are planned to cover these aspects. The course syllabus illustrates detailed programs and that will be covered by CIMMYT scientists and key guest lecturers (supported by Borlaug Training Foundation-BTF).
This course targets junior scientists (<40yrs old) associated with national breeding programs, graduate students, and qualified self-sponsored visitors. Candidates must be fit for field work.
Course Cost : USD $10,500.00
The cost includes accommodation, daily allowance of $30/day, local health insurance, application for Mexican visa, IT, local transport, training materials, field visits and study tours, and attendance of workshops & Conferences. Course cost DOES NOT include international travel to and from Mexico, travel incidentals, and medical insurance deductibles.
